What is the difference between pintail longboards and kicktail longboards?

Longboarding is another adrenaline sport that gets you going! It is comparable with skateboarding but much easier.
Of course before you can choose you first need to know: What is a longboard?

A longboard is a longer version of the skateboard. But not only that, it is more. The wheels are softer and bigger and you have a variety of shapes, lengths, widths and flexes for any rider.

Cruiser longboards is a way of transportation. It will bring you from point A to point B and perfect for beginners. You can do this anywhere on any flat surface. You can weave through the crowds, at work, at school. You can choose from different length. You have short longboards so you can take it easily under your arm or in your backpack, or if you want to go down the hill with it, you are better off with a longer board.

Pintail longboards are amazing for general commute. The deck is totally flat and have a leave shape. It has a pointed nose.  It is perfect for cruising and beginners. You have different lengths. The most common ones are between 38”-46”. The boards have a flex which will help you riding easier and you won’t feel rocks as much.

Pintail longboards are also good for carving. The wheels are outside of the board so it won’t hit the board when carving or cruising (called “wheelbite”) but the shape of the board still provides ample footspace.

Kicktail longboards are similar in riding as the pintail and it is a few more advantages.

A kicktail is when the tail is kicked up a bit. Just like the skateboard only on one side, the back.

Having a kicktail longboard can be very convenient when you have to make quick turns, do pop ups, tricks or go down the curbs. It is also easier to pick up your board when you are done. Just hit the kick with your foot and the board goes up to grab it with ease.

Kicktail longboards have a traditional shape, just like the skateboards. It is one of the most popular longboard shape and it is a great board for cruising around town. In addition to having a kicktail it also has a concave for all the longboard tricks you would like to do since this board has more control and better steering. A concave is a sort of dip in the middle of the board. It is not a flat surface, so you have better grip you’re your feet.

There are cheap longboards, moderate priced and top of the line kicktail longboards. Just pick your favorite kicktail longboard deck / complete.

No matter which shape you pick, both shapes are perfect for cruising and carving and the shape of your board is a matter of preference and riding style. Anyway, you will have a blast riding them!
